PAYC was founded in 1893 by a group of ardent sailboat racers, fishermen and civic leaders who were passionate in their belief that the Port Angeles harbor provided a world class opportunity for sport, seafood harvest, boatbuilding, and general enjoyment. After decades of assisting with Port development, racing, cruising and wartime service to the nation through the USCG Auxiliary, club members formally incorporated PAYC in 1937 as a casual yacht club for people who loved being on and around the water, boat owners or no, emphasizing good seamanship and camaraderie.
