The Race to Alaska (R2AK) is an annual whimsical human and wind powered boat race from Port Townsend to Ketchican. That means no motors on the boat at all.
They recently made a movie about the R2AK and Tony Billera got us permission to show it to you and your friends for free!!!! Come to the clubhouse at 6PM on Saturday, April 22nd and bring a friend with you to experience all the thrills of this annual R2AK adventure without getting wet! The bar will be open from 6-6:30 to get a drink and some popcorn. Then we'll close the bar and start the movie. After the movie is over, we'll open the bar again while new member and R2AK alumnus Lilly Kuehl has offered to answer your questions about the race. Our most important business will be to formally elect Dianna Chiabotti Treasurer! Please come and show her how much you appreciate her service!!! This is an International Potluck. So please bring a dish to share from somewhere around the world. Bring your favorite dish that Grandma brought from the old country, your favorite recipe, or something new you want to try! If you don't feel like cooking, $10/person gets you in. Enjoy two great talks from our local Coast Guard friends. LT Casey Fall will talk about her time as an MH-65 helicopter pilot, and tell “sea/air” stories about Coast Guard aviation operations. Boatswain’s Mate Jessica Ford will be speaking about safe boating best practices, weather forecasting, and protective equipment/water survival. A topic she knows well from her response to a mass rescue for multiple capsized sailing vessels participating in the ‘Race to Alaska’ in weather so bad her Response Boat shouldn't be out! Greet our new and prospective members During our short business meeting, we get to induct new members Lilly Kuehl & Dave Linger, Krista Smith, and Sherne-Marie McMillan. The bridge recently approved Thomas & Helen Schemm, and Walt Boyes & Joy Ward for membership. Please welcome them all to the club! Click on the chart below to volunteer
